Ng, Saina remain on track at Malaysia Masters

Top seeds in the men’s and women’s singles draw, Ng Ka Long Angus and Saina Nehwal, both reached the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Masters in Sarawak on Thursday.

Men's top seed Ng of Hong Kong cruised past Indonesia's 16th seed Ihsan Maulana Mustofa 21-14, 21-14 in 32 minutes to set up a meeting with eighth seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia, who beat countryman Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 24-22, 21-16.    

In other men's singles results, Korea Republic fifth seed Lee Hyun Il beat Chinese Taipei's Chun-Wei Chen 21-14, 21-7; Indian sixth seed Ajay Jayaram battles past Chinese Taipei's Hsueh Hsuan Yi 21-12, 15-21, 21-15 in 49 minutes and seventh seed Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia cruised past Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu 21-10, 21-17.

Women's top seed from India, Saina Nehwal, beat Indonesia's Hanna Ramadini 21-17, 21-12 in 42 minutes and will face eighth seed Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia who beat Malaysia's Soniia Cheah 21-16, 21-17.

In a few other women's results, second seed Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong beat Malaysia's Yin Fun Lim 21-13, 21-11 and in a number of upsets – unseeded Dinar Dyah Ayustine of Indonesia beat Spanish third seed Beatriz Corrales 21-16, 19-21, 22-20 in 76 minutes; unseeded Malaysian Ying Ying Lee thumped fourth seed, Hsu Ya Ching of Chinese Taipei 21-8, 21-8; Chia Hsin Lee of Chinese Taipei saw off sixth seed Jin Wei Goh of Malaysia 21-12, 21-10 and in yet another upset, the unseeded Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand downed Chinese Taipei seventh seed Chiang Mei Hui 21-8, 22-20 in 29 minutes.
