Warriors beat Hunters in PBL

Awadhe Warriors thrashed Hyderabad Hunters 5-0 on the second day of the Premier Badminton League in India.

The whitewash was completed despite the Hunters’ Spanish star Carolina Marin beating local favourite Saina Nehwal in the marquee match of the day.

Marin secured a 15-14, 11-5 victory over Nehwal to tie up the match at 1-1 after Awadhe’s Wing Ki Vincent Wong got his side off to a winning start with a 11-13, 11-6, 13-11 victory over B Sai Praneeth.

The Warriors went on to win the mixed doubles match 11-9, 12-10 to take a 3-1 lead in the match. They had selected the clash as their trump match, meaning they gained two points for the victory.

Awadhe then claimed an unassailable 4-1 lead as Kidambi Srikanth fought back from a game down to beat Rajiv Ouseph 11-13, 11-7, 13-11.

The Hunters had selected the final match as their trump match, but the men’s doubles clash also went the Warriors’ way, as V Shem Goh and Markis Kido defeated Boon Heong Tan and Wee Kiong Tan.

Losing their trump match saw the Hunters lose a point, resulting in a 5-0 win for Awadhe.
