The 15-year-old admitted that she was surprised to have defeated her Thai opponent 21-16, 23-21 as she thought that Jindapon would put up more of a fight.
"I really did not expect to win since Nichaon is quite an experienced player and her ranking is quite high," Jin Wei told The Star Online. "Maybe she was under more pressure than me and I had nothing to lose."
Jin Wei was also thrilled to have at least clinched a bronze medal for her country, but added that she will be aiming to go one step further by beating Indonesia's Hanna Ramadini in the semi-final on Monday.
"I’m happy that I’m able to contribute at least a bronze," she said. "Now I will do everything I can to win in the semi-finals."
