Thai fifth seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk caused an upset to defeat second-seeded Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia to win badminton’s SCG Thailand Open in Bangkok on Sunday.
Tanongsak defeated Sony comfortably 21-15, 21-16 in a match lasting just 42 minutes.
The win was Tanongsak’s third victory in seven meetings between the two players.
There was another upset in the women’s singles when, the unseeded Aya Ohori of Japan beat Thai third seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan 25-23, 21-8 in 49 minutes.
In the men’s doubles final, second seeds Berry Angriawan and Rian Agung Saputo of Indonesia needed and hour to get past Japan’s Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko 17-21, 21-14, 21-18.

In the women’s doubles, Thai top seeds Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai defeated fifth seeds Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara of Japan 21-12, 21-17 in just under an hour.
In the mixed doubles final, third seeds Kian Meng Tan and Pei Jing Lai of Malaysia beat Hong Kong duo Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet 21-16, 22-20.
