China’s Qiao Bin will face South Korea’s Son Wan-ho in the final of the Korea open after surviving a scare against Wong Wing-ki.
Hong Kong’s Wong had played a gruelling quarter-final only 24 hours earlier, but pushed his oponent all the way, with Qiao eventually triumphing 21-18, 21-16.
Speaking after his defeat, Wong said: “He was quicker than me today. I think my long quarter-final against Tian Houwei yesterday made me slightly slower.”
Meanwhile, Son defeated compatriot Lee Hyun-il 21-13, 14-21, 21-10 to secure his passage to the final.
In the women’s side of the draw, Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi powered past fellow countryman Minatsu Mitani in a 21-17, 21-11 win.
Yamaguchi will face South Korea’s Sung Ji-hyun, who has made the final for the second-succesive year after easing past younger teammate Kim Hyo-min with a 21-5, 21-10 success.
