Hong Kong’s Wei needed just 33 minutes to defeat Indonesia’s Enzi Shafira 21-14, 21-13 and set up a second round match against Yulianto Ilham Sri of Indonesia who beat countryman Moch. Revindra Reyhaldi 21-16, 21-13.
In some other men’s singles first round matches, second seed Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia beat countryman Abdul Kadir Zailani 21-12, 21-13 while Indian third seed Ajay Jayaram hammered Yehezkiel Fritz Mainaky of Indonesia 21-8, 21-9 in 20 minutes.
In an all-Indonesian clash, fourth seed Jonatan Christie downed Tri Haryanto 21-8, 21-8 and fifth-seeded Tanongsak Saensomboomsuk got the better of Canada’s Timothy Chiu 21-10, 21-13.
Sixth seed hometown player Sony Dwi Kuncoro spent 64 minutes on court to beat Thailand’s Adulrach Namkul 17-21, 21-14, 21-17 while India’s seventh seed H.S. Prannoy defeated Korea Republic’s Ha Young Woong 16-21, 21-19, 21-14 in 59 minutes.

In results from some of the women’s first round matches, top seed Ongbamrungphan of Thailand beat Malaysia’s Yen Mei Ho 21-12, 22-20 to set up a second round clash against China’s Yue Han after she beat Rusydina Antardayu Riodingin of Indonesia 21-14 21-8.
Thai second seed Nitchaon Jindapol needed 57 to get past Korea Republic’s Na Young Kim 21-14, 15-21, 22-20 while fourth seed Xiaoyu Liang of Singapore saw off India’s P.C. Thulasi 21-12 21-5.
China’s fifth seed Chen Yufei defeated Susanto Yulia Yosephin of Indonesia 21-10, 21-13 and Japan’s sixth seed Ayumi Mine beat hometown player Jesica Muljati 21-9, 23-21 in 50 minutes.
