Boon Heong admitted that he and Kien Keat were lucky that Taiki Shimada and Hiroki Takeuchi of Japan did arrive for their first round match and they were handed a walkover.
The Malaysian pair went on to beat Japan's Kazuaki Oshima and Yuki Umino 16-21, 21-10, 21-15 in the second round to set up a quarter-final clash with top seeds Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov.
"Our luggage only arrived yesterday evening," Boon Heong told reporters. "We were without our equipment. Fortunately, our first-round opponents did not show up. Now, we are just happy to reach the top eight."
Boon Heong acknowledged that he and Kien Keat will be pushed to their limits in the quarter-finals, but believes that they are capable of beating Ivanov and Sozonov.
"They are the home favourites," he said. "They have upset many top players on their good days. Kien Keat and I have lost to them once too. We have to be on our guard."
