Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei and Spain’s Carolina Marin have been confirmed as the top seeds for the Olympic badminton competition, based on the current world rankings which were released on Thursday.
The seedings will be used for the draw of five different categories on Tuesday July 26 as each singles category has 13 seeds.
The in-form Lee, who has been the runner-up at the last two Olympics, is followed in the men’s seedings by China’s two-time world champion Chen Long and double Olympic champion Lin Dan.
In women’s singles, double world champion Marin leads the field in front of China’s Wang Yihan and defending Olympic champion Li Xuerui.
As for the doubles there are only four seeds in each of the three categories, with South Korea’s Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong heading the men’s doubles seedings and Japan’s Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi leading the way in the women’s doubles.
In the mixed doubles, defending Olympic champions Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei of China are the top-seeded duo.
