Hsu makes Vietnam Open second round

Top seed Hsu Ya Ching of Chinese Taipei reached the women's second round of badminton's Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix on Tuesday in Ho Chi Minh City.

Hsu saw off Thailand's Kunjira Khongdee 21-18, 21-16 in 30 minutes to set up a second round match against Indonesia's Dinar Dyah Ayustine after she beat P. C. Thulasi of India 15-21, 21-7, 21-13 in a match lasting 50 minutes.

In some other women's first round matches, third seed Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong defeated Ruselli Hartawan of Indonesia 21-16, 21-13 and Vietnamese fourth seed Vu Thi Trang needed an hour to down Chinese Taipei's Cheng Chi Ya 21-12, 23-25, 21-14.

Fifth seed Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia got past Singapore's Chua Hui Zhen Grace 21-12, 15-21, 21-16 in 50 minutes while Malaysia's Yin Fun Lim caused an upset when beating seventh seed Hana Ramadhini of Indonesia 21-17, 22-20.

In an upset, unseeded Supanida Katethong of Thailand hammered Finish eighth seed Nanna Vainio 21-11, 21-16.
