Wong needed 75 minutes to defeat Japan's Hashiru Shimono 16-21, 21-19, 21-15 and will now face India's unseeded Aditya Joshi who upset 15th seeded countryman Harsheel Dani 21-18, 16-21, 21-18 in a match lasting 69 minutes.
In some other men's second round matches, unseeded Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia caused an upset when beating Thai fifth seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-14, 14-21, 21-17 in 40 minutes and Chinese Taipei seventh seed Wang Tzu Wei saw off countryman Shih Kuei Chun 21-9, 21-19.
Eighth seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia downed India's Pratul Joshi 21-10, 21-13 while, in an upset, unseeded Firman Abdul Kholik of Indonesia beat Russian 10th seed Vladimir Malkov 21-14, 9-21, 21-12.
Malaysian 11th seed Chong Wei Feng got past Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong 21-12, 21-17 and 14th seed LinYu Hsien of Chinese Taipei needed 51 minutes to battle past Malaysia's Goh Giap Chin 21-16, 6-21, 21-19.
