Defending champion and third seed H.S. Prannoy was sent crashing out of the Indonesian Masters Grand Prix on Wednesday after suffering a second-round defeat against China's Shi Yuqi.
The Indian shuttler went down 21-12, 20-22, 21-13 in 54 minutes at the Gedung Graha Cakrawala, despite Shi being ranked a full 105 places below him.
The Chinese player headed out later in the day, however, and lost his third-round match against Indonesia's Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo, going down 22-20, 21-12.
Top seed Kidambi Srikanth safely negotiated his second and third round matches, beating Saputra Vicky Angga 21-14, 17-21, 25-23 before seeing off Qiao Bin 21-12, 21-15 in an improved performance.
Local favourite and second seed Tommy Sugiarto also reached the quarter-finals, accounting for Lin Guipu before dispatching countryman and 13th seed Sony Dwi Kuncoro 21-11, 21-8.
Thai fifth seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk was another casualty on the day, going down 21-15, 21-12 to 11th seed Anthony Ginting in the third round.
Seventh seed Ihsan Maulana Mustofa was also eliminated, 19-21, 21-16, 21-17 at the hands of 15th seed Teck Zhi Soo of Malaysia, while eighth seed R.M.V. Gurusaidutt was beaten 21-14, 17-21, 21-15 by another Malaysian, 12th seed Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin.
