Shixian reaches Chinese Taipei Open quarters

Top seed Wang Shixian of China reached the quarter-finals of the women’s Yonex Chinese Taipei Open after defeating Kim Na Young on Thursday.

Wang needed 60 minutes to battle past Korea Republic's Kim 21-11, 19-21, 21-12 and will next face unseeded companion Chen Yufei after she defeated Thai sixth seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-18, 21-18.

In other women's second-round results, Chinese Taipei's second seed Tai Tzu Ying beat China's Gao Fangjie 21-15, 21-11 and third seed Sun Yu of China hammered Indonesia's Hana Ramadhini 21-5, 21-6.

Fourth seed He Bingjiao of China needed 54 minutes to defeat Hong Kong's Yip Pui Yin 19-21, 21-18, 21-14 and in an upset unseeded Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand beat Chinese Taipei's seventh seed Pai Yu Po 14-21, 22-20, 21-18 in 68 minutes.

Thai eighth seed Nitchaon Jindapol had few issues getting past Indonesia's Dinar Dyah Ayustine 21-12, 21-10.
