Second seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand and China’s Li Xuerui reached the quarter-finals of the women’s singles at the XIAMENAIR Australian Badminton Open in Sydney on Thursday.
Intanon needed just 26 minutes to brush aside Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin 21-7, 21-9 while third seed Xuerui cruised past Vietnam’s Thi Trang Vu 21-11, 21-11.

In some other women’s second-round action, fourth seed Wang Yihan of China beat India’s Tanvi Lad 21-18, 21-6 and Chinese sixth seed Wang Shixian did enough to get past compatriot He Bingjiao 21-19, 21-18.
Former world number one and seventh seed Saina Nehwal of India had few problems getting past Malaysia’s Jin Wei Goh 21-12, 21-14 while eighth seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei defeated Malaysia’s Jing Yi Tee 21-10, 21-19.
Akane Yamaguchi of Japan downed Korea Republic’s Kim Hyo Min 21-17, 21-14 and China’s Sun Yu was too strong for Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky of Indonesia, winning 21-11, 21-7.
