Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei could not hide his delight after he triumphed at the Indonesia Open on Sunday.
Chong Wei’s victory was not a simple one though as he had to come from behind to defeat world number five Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark 17-21, 21-19, 21-17.
With his victory over Jorgensen, Chong Wei becomes the third shuttler in history and the first non-Indonesian shuttler to win the Indonesia Open six times. Furthermore, the Indonesia Open title had eluded the 33-year-old since 2013.
“I’m really happy to win the title for the sixth time here in Indonesia. It’s quite an achievement for me,” Chong Wei told The Star. “I really have to thank the crowd for cheering for me. It made me feel like I was playing at home.”
Chong Wei, who will now shift his focus to the Australian Open this week, has won four titles this year and is fast becoming the man to beat.
