Wang Yihan shocked World Champion Carolina Marin in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open in Jakarta on Saturday.
The fourth-seeded Chinese shuttler needed all of 79 minutes to get the better of her Spanish opponent, eventually winning 16-21, 21-11, 21-17.
Marin led the opening game from the get-go and never relinquished the lead she had opened up in the first points, with Wang unable to close to within more than two points of the Spaniard.
The second game followed much the same patter, with Wang racing into an early lead which the Spaniard was never able to overturn.
The decider was a far more closely affair, with the lead changing hands on a couple of occasions until Wang finally moved into the ascendancy with the score on 13-all.
Her opponent in Sunday’s final is the unseeded shuttler from Chinese Taipei, Tai Tzu Ying.
Tai made short work of sixth seed Wang Shixian, beating the Chinese ace 21-9, 21-15.
