Nehwal, Yihan reach Indonesia quarters

India’s eighth seed Saina Nehwal and fourth seed Wang Yihan both reached the women’s quarter-finals of the BCA Indonesia Open in Jakarta on Thursday.

Saina needed just 32 minutes to hammer Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia 21-11, 21-10 while China’s Wang needed 48 minutes to get past Line Kjaersfeldt of Denmark 21-13, 18-21, 21-12.

More women’s second round results – Sixth seed Wang Shixian of China battled past countryman He Bingjiao to win 13-21, 21-14, 21-14 in 50 minutes while Korea Republic’s seventh seed Sung Ji Hyun defeated Singapore’s Xiaoyu Liang 21-17, 21-19.

China’s Sun Yu beat Febby Angguni of Indonesia 21-12, 21-15 and top seed Carolina Marin of Spain downed Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 24-22, 21-14. In an upset, unseeded Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei defeated Chinese third seed Li Xuerui 21-18, 21-18.
