Malaysian shuttler Zulfadli Zulkiffli was glad that he put up a gusty fight during his match with world number three Lin Dan at the Indonesia Open on Wednesday.
Zulfadli was on track to cause a huge upset after winning the first game, but Dan bounced back to win the first round match 16-21, 21-18, 21-16.
Despite yet another early exit, Zulfadli was delighted with the fact that he gave Dan a run for his money.
“I’m very happy and proud with how I played today,” he told The Star. “I finally got to play against Lin Dan. He showed me today why he’s such a fantastic shuttler. I couldn’t match his strength and speed.
“But what else could I ask for? I managed to steal a game from him. It’s a great experience. That’s the kind of confidence boost I need to take on the world’s top 10 players.”
Following his come-from-behind win over Zulfadli, Dan will face Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the second round on Thursday.
