World number one Chen Long of China was forced to pull out of his match in the Indonesia Open due to a hip injury on Wednesday.
Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro now progresses to the second round after being awarded a walkover and will next face Hu Yun of Hong Kong.
Some of the men’s first round singles results – Second seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia cruised past India’s Sameer Verma 21-11, 21-13 while China’s third seed Lin Dan was made to work hard to beat Zulfadli Zulkiffliof Malaysia 16-21, 21-18, 21-16 in a match lasting 70 minutes.
Denmark’s fifth seed Jan O Jorgensen beat Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 22-20, 25-23 and in an upset unseeded Huang Yuxiang of china beat fourth seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark when he retired injured with Huang leading 16-21, 21-16, 8-4.
Seventh seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei defeated Korea Republic’s Son Wan Ho 21-14, 19-21, 21-19 and in an upset Wei Nan of Hong Kong beat eight seed Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia 21-16, 21-14.
