China crowned Uber Cup champions

China won the Uber Cup for the 14th time when they beat the Korea Republic 3-1 at the Kunshan Sports Centre on Saturday.

Former world number one Li Xuerui got the ball rolling for China when she claimed a hard-fought 14-21, 21-13, 21-10 over Sung Ji-hyun, much to the delight of the home fans.

Korea were back on level pegging when the doubles pair of Jung Kyung-eun and Shin Seung-chan got the better of the much-vaunted Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei pairing, winning 16-21, 21-17, 25-23 in a match that lasted all of 94 minutes.

Wang Shixian, another former world number one in the Chinese team’s locker, got the host nation back in front when she outclassed Kim Hyo-min 21-13, 21-12 in what was a particularly impressive performance from the 26-year-old.

The match was then put to bed when Chen Qingchen-Tang Yuanting battled past the spirited pair of Chang Ye-na-Lee So-hee 21-14, 21-16 after 51 minutes on the court.
