Fresh off their clash in the final of last week’s China Masters, both Chen Long and Lin Dan safely advanced to the second round of the Dong Feng Citroen Asia Championships on Wednesday.
The Chinese duo were back on home soil in Wuhan, and gave their home fans plenty to cheer about.
Top seed Chen made short work of Jeon Hyeok Jin, needing just 42 minutes on the courts of the Wuhan Sports Gymnasium to defeat him 21-14, 21-16.
After dominating the opening game, the scores were tied at 15-all in the second before a run of five points saw the world number one close out the match. The Chinese star will face Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia in the second round.
Later in the day, second seed Lin survived a second game comeback from Ihsan Maulana Mustofa to eventually defeat the Indonesian 21-9, 14-21, 21-19.
In other results, Malaysian superstar Lee Chong Wei – seeded third – eased past Wang Zhengming 21-16, 21-14 and fifth seed Tian Houwei beat Son Wan Ho 21-14, 21-17.
