Chong Wei Feng will be traveling with former World No 1 Lee Chong Wei to France to assist him as a sparring partner ahead of the French Open in late October.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost and Chong Wei's coach Hendrawan together agreed on the new move to assist the shuttler in his preparations.
It comes after a period of struggle for Chong Wei, who recently lost in the second round of the Japan Open before being bundled out in the first qualifying round at the Korean Open.
With important events to come in Europe – the Denmark Open (Oct 13-18) and French Open (Oct 20-25) – BAM and Hendrawan want to make sure Chong Wei has all the support he needs, and the ability to spar with World No 33 Wei Feng should come as a welcome boost.
Hendrawan will also be accompanying Chong Wei for both tournaments.
“For the Denmark Open, Chong Wei will train on his own. But Chong Wei will spar with Wei Feng in France,” said Hendrawan.
“He is not involved in the qualifying rounds now, so hopefully the results will be better this time. The target is help him further improve his ranking to qualify for next year’s Olympics."
