Local favourite Ratchanok Intanon was dumped out of the Thailand Open on Saturday after losing her semi-final against Liang Xiaoyu.
The top seed from Thailand lost the opening game against her opponent from Singapore 22-20, but was soon back on an even keel after winning the second game 21-13.
In the decider, the unseeded Xiaoyu raced into a 17-7 lead and although the 2013 world champion was able to drag things back to 19-17 in her opponent's favour, she was unable to complete the reversal, ultimately going down 21-17 in the third game against the 18-year-old.
In the other women's semi-final, Korean second seed Sung Ji Hyun had little trouble disposing of Sun Yu, beating the third seed from China 21-10, 21-18 after spending 40 minutes on court.
The men's semi-finals saw fourth seed Lee Hyun Il and unseeded Ihsan Maulana Mustofa both advance to Sunday's final.
Hyun Il faced Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka, the seventh seed from Indonesia, in his semi-final, and proceeded to book his place in the title match by virtue of a 21-17, 21-13 victory.
Mustofa, another shuttler from Indonesia, had little trouble in overcoming Korea's Jeon Hyeok Jin 21-15, 21-17.
