Chou Tien Chen scored an upset win over top seed Jan O Jorgensen in the semi-finals of the German Open on Saturday.
Chou, seeded fourth this week, dropped the first game against his Danish opponent but managed to turn it around completely from there, winning the remaining two games for a much-deserved 16-21, 21-14, 21-17 victory in just over an hour.
The 26-year-old from Chinese Taipei moves on to face another formidable opponent in Sunday’s final – second seed Lin Dan of China, who was a comfortable 21-12, 21-13 winner over South Korea’s Son Wan Ho.
The women’s final is an all-Chinese affair between second seed Li Xuerui and fourth seed Wang Shixian.
Li had to battle back from a game down to defeat Japanese fifth seed Nozomi Okuhara 15-21, 21-13, 21-13, whihle Wang also needed three games to get past her Japanese opponent, sixth seed Akane Yamaguchi, eventually winning 21-13, 19-21, 21-19 in a fiercely contested 72-minute encounter.
