Third-seeded Hu Yun of Hong Kong caused an upset by beating South Korean second seed Son Wan Ho to reach the final of badminton’s Thailand Masters on Friday.
In a match lasting over an hour, Hu got past his more fancied opponent 11-21, 24-22, 21-16 to set up a final on Saturday against top seed Lee Hyun Il of South Korea.
Lee defeated Thai 12th seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-11, 21-11 in 31 minutes.
In the women’s semi-finals, fourth seed Sun Yu of China had few problems getting past Thailand’s sixth seed Busanan Ongbumrungphan 21-16, 21-11 in a match lasting 52 minutes and will next face Thailand’s second seed Ratchanok Intanon in the final.
Ratchanok defeated Korean third seed Sung Ji Hyun 21-15, 22-20 in 52 minutes.
