Malaysia will be without shuttler Tee Jing Yi during the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) in Hyderabad, India next week.
Jing Yi was forced to miss the tournament after injuring her hamstring during her 21-17, 19-21, 18-21 loss to Lee Chia Hsin in the first round of the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships last month.
Badminton Association of Malaysia Technical Director Morten Frost confirmed that Lim Yin Fun will replace Jing Yi in the squad and added that he is confident Yin Fun will excel at the tournament.
“Obviously, it will disrupt preparations when you lose a player to injury, but Yin Fun is young and talented and I am sure that she will be able to step up and help her country,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro. “Yin Fun will have what it takes to perform at a higher level in the next two or three years.”
Yin Fun will compete in the women’s singles event alongside Goh Jin Wei and Lee Ying Ying.
Malaysia’s BATC squad will depart for Hyderabad on Thursday.
