Indian badminton stars Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap will miss the 12th South Asian Games, being hosted in Guwahati and Shillong, due to injury concerns.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) have informed the local organisers of the sudden change. The games begin on February 5 and run up until February 16.
“We’ve received a communication from BAI stating that the entire badminton squad except for Saina and Kashyap is arriving tomorrow (Friday) afternoon,” SAG (Shillong) joint CEO FR Kharkongor told PTI.
The withdrawal of Saina and Kashyap is an indication that they are being rested ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio.
