Srikanth Kidambi defeated Yuxiang Huang in the final of the men’s singles at the Syed Modi International Badminton Championship on Sunday.
The Indian survived a second game comeback to emerge victorious 21-13, 14-21, 21-14 on the courts of the BBD U.P. Badminton Academy in Lucknow, India.
The top seed managed to keep the Chinese national at arm’s length in the opening stanza, taking a one game lead comfortably.
Kidambi looked to be cursing to victory at 10-5 up on the second, but Huang mounted a superb comeback, with a run of five points leading to the scores being locked at 12-all. Huang then went on another run and forced a decider.
The final game was a tense affair, with the lead changing hands several times. Eventually, with Huang protecting a slim one-point lead at 13-12, Kidambi won six consecutive points which proved to be the killer blow.
