South Korean top seed Sung Ji Hyun has made it to the semi-finals of the women’s singles at the Victor Far East Malaysia Masters on Friday.
Sung hammered Japanese fifth seed Sayaka Sato 21-12, 21-9 to set up a semi-final clash against Indian third seed P.V. Sindhu who beat Lindaweni Fanetri of Indonesia 21-10, 21-10.
In other quarter-final matches, seventh seed Yui Hashimoto of Japan caused an upset by beating South Korean fourth seed Bae Yeon Ju 13-21, 21-18, 21-11 in a match that lasted 68 minutes.
Yui will next face Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour in the semi-finals after she upset Thai eighth seed Busanan Ongbumrungphan 21-19, 21-10.
