Zulfadli Zulkiffli was knocked out of the Malaysian Masters on Thursday after he lost in heartbreaking fashion to Ajay Jayaram by a score-line of 21-11, 8-21, 20-22.
Zulkiffli was leading his more accomplished opponent in the deciding game but was unable to close out the match. Sensing the 22-year-old’s nerves, Jayaram seized his moment and stormed to a great come-from-behind victory.
However, it was not all doom and gloom for Zulkiffli.
Former world number one, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, was confident that the precocious talent would be able to take valuable lessons from this defeat.
“I was able to watch the Zulfadli match. I was rather disappointed because this was his opportunity to perform, but at least with the defeat, he would learn something,” the Malaysian said of his countrymen.
“Zulfadli can learn something where he was defeated despite leading earlier.”
