The Chennai Smashers beat the Delhi Acers 4-3 to secure their second straight win in the Premier Badminton League.
The men's duo of Chris Adcock and Pranaav Jerry Chopra got the Smashers off to a great start by defeating Tan Boon Heong and Koon Kiet Keat in the opening mens doubles match. The score was 15-12, 15-14.
After the disappointment of the opening tie, Ajay Jayaram then pulled a point back for the Acers in the first of the mens singles matches. He comprehensively beat Simon Santosa 15-6, 15-9. The victory took just 26 minutes.
The mixed doubles saw Chris Adcock do battle with his wife, Gabrielle Adcock. Chris paired up with Pia Zebadiah for the Chennai outfit while Gabrielle paired up with Keat for Delhi. The Chennai twosome snatched the match by winning the deciding third game 15-14.
Chennai played their Trump Match and set-up a clash between PV Sindhu and PV Thulasi. Sindhu had no problem disposing of Thulasi in this womens singles confrontation. Sindhu claimed the match 15-5, 15-4 and in doing so stretched the Smashers' lead.
In the final encounter of the meeting it was Tommy Sugiarto of the Acers who played Brice Leverdez of the Smashers. This mens singles match was a Trump Match that was called by the Acers. The Acers got their tactics spot on as Sugiarto cruised to a comfortable 15-4, 15-11 victory.
The Smashers ended 4-3 victors over the Acers in Lucknow and have now put together back-to-back wins.
