Saina through in China Open

Top seeded Saina Nehwal won her first round match at badminton's Thaihot China Open on Wednesday.

The Indian star beat China's Sun Yu 22-20, 21-18 in 49 minutes while second seed Carolina Marin of Spain had an easy win against Maria Febe Kusumastuti of Indonesia, winning 21-10, 21-10.

In other women's first round matches, Chinese seventh seed Wang Yihan thrashed Hadia Hosny of Egypt 21-3, 21-4 and sixth seed Li Xuerui of China beat countryman Zhang Yiman 21-11, 21-13.

Taiwan's fourth seed Tai Tzu Ying cruised past China's Cai Yanyan 21-13, 21-14 while in a slight upset Japan's Nozomi Okuhara beat eighth seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-15, 21-19.

Japan's Akane Yamaguchi worked hard to beat Thailand's Busanan Ongbumrungphan 21-15, 16-21, 21-12 and South Korean third seed Sung Ji Hyun got past China's Shen Yaying in three games, winning 21-7, 16-21, 21-12. 

Taiwan's Pai Yu Po beat American Iris Wang 22-20, 21-14 and Minatsu Mitani of Japan got past America's Beiwen Zhang 19-21, 21-3, 21-8.

Yui Hashimoto of Japan had little trouble beating Germany's Karin Schnaase 21-13, 21-13 while China's Chen Xiaoxin beat Hsu Ya Ching of Taiwan 18-21, 21-9, 21-19.

Malaysia's Jing Yi Tee got past Chen Hsiao Huan of Taiwan 21-17, 22-20 and India's Venkata Sindhu Sindhu beat Ksenia Polikarpova of Russia 21-14, 21-9.

Fifth seed Wang Shixian of China hammered South Korea's Bae Yeon Ju 21-9, 21-13 and Michelle Li of Canada had little trouble beating America's Rong Schafer 21-11, 21-16.
