Chen cruises in China

Men's top seed Chen Long cruised into the second round of badminton's Thaihot China Open after beating Ajay Jayaram on Wednesday.

The Chinese star had little trouble beating his Indian opponent 21-12, 21-11 while third seed Lin Dan of China had to dig deep to overcome countryman Qiao Bin 11-21, 21-8, 21-16 in 74 minutes. 

In other men's first round matches, Hong Kong's Hu Yun caused a big upset by beating Indian fifth seed K. Srikanth 21-12, 21-18 and Taiwan's Hsu Jen Hao worked hard to beat Marc Zwiebler of Germany 21-14, 19-21, 21-14.

Japanese fourth seed Kento Momota was pushed hard before overcoming China's Wang Zhengming 18-21, 21-16, 21-19 in 79 minutes and Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong won a three-gamer over Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto 18-21, 21-13, 21-12.

Danish seventh seed Viktor Axelsen was pushed hard by unseeded Wei Nan of Hong Kong before winning 1821, 21-11, 21-18 while it was all plain sailing for Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand who beat China's Tian Houwei 21-19, 21-18.
Son Wan Ho of South Korea got past Japan's Sho Sasaki 21-8, 21-19 and Lee Dong Keun    of South Korea beat Ireland's Scott Evans 21-14, 18-21, 22-20.

Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia cruised past Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus 21-10, 21-15 while China's Guo Kai fought hard to beat India's H.S. Prannoy 21-14, 17-21, 21-19. 

Frenchman Brice Leverdez won a tight match against Zhou Zeqi of China 13-21, 21-15, 21-18 while Danish second seed Jan O Jorgensen cruised past Japan's Takuma Ueda 21-13, 21-13.

Sixth seed Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan beat China's Xue Song 12-21, 21-15, 21-17.
