WATCH: Mason Greenwood's record-breaking goal helps Manchester United defeat Astana in UEL opener

A clinical strike from Manchester United star Mason Greenwood during the second half of their Europa League opener against Astana, proved to be the biggest difference between both sides as the Red Devils marked the beginning of their 2019-20 European campaign with a win.

The 17-year-old scored during the 73rd minute, just when the match was threatening to become an embarrassing night’s work for Manchester United against Astana, who are also the top-ranked side in Kazakhstan. Just twelve days short of his 18th birthday, Greenwood’s goal has also made him the Red Devils’ youngest-ever goalscorer in European competitions, as he broke the record set by teammate Marcus Rashford against Midtjylland in the 2016 Europa League.

Watch the video of the goal below:

Take a look at the same goal, in a few other angles right here:

In case you did not know, this is also Greenworrd’s first senior goal for Manchester United, and also his first-ever European goal.

It all began when the English youngster received a pass from Fred inside Astana’s penalty area. He then moved forward before shifting his weight effortlessly right to left and back, to overcome the challenge set by Astana defender Dorin Rotariu. In doing so, he was able to create an ample space to shoot the ball, and thus drilled home a precise shot with his right foot, through the legs of Astana’s goalkeeper Nenad Eric.

United then held on to their narrow lead for the remaining seventeen minutes of game-time and eventually recorded the first win of their 2019-20 Europa League campaign.

Up next, they will face West Ham United in the Premier League, on Sunday at the London Stadium.

Reports: Barcelona star fed up with Ernesto Valverde, wants to leave in January

Reports: Barcelona star fed up with Ernesto Valverde, wants to leave in January

The latest word around the rumour mill is that Barcelona star Carles Alena is so fed up manager Ernesto Valverde, that he wants to leave the club at the earliest.

This is according to Don Balon, who reports that Alena is tired of waiting for his chances in the first team, after having risen through the ranks – initially as a youth player, and later as a member of the Barcelona B team that plays in the Segunda division.

The Spanish news agency further claims that the young Spaniard has received lots of offers from various European clubs, but he had rejected them all so far, in favour of remaining with the Catalans.

Alena, who used to wear his preferred shirt number 21 until last season, was also asked to change to number 19 this season – so that new signing Frenkie de Jong can take up number 21 instead.

The arrival of de Jong – along with Valverde relying more on the likes of Arthur and Sergi Roberto in Barcelona’s midfield – have further reduced the 21-year-old’s chances at the Camp Nou.

Don Balon reports that all of these factors put together, have forced the player to make his final decision regarding his future at the club – and thereby, to leave at the earliest before his career stagnates under the former Athletic Bilbao boss.

Real Madrid fans plead Cristiano Ronaldo to return after Champions League defeat to PSG

Real Madrid fans plead Cristiano Ronaldo to return after Champions League defeat to PSG

Real Madrid fans on Twitter have started a massive movement, pleading for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the Santiago Bernabeu, after their most recent loss in the Champions League against Paris Saint Germain.

Check out some of the best reactions from Twitter, right below:

To put things in perspective, Real Madrid won four Champions League titles within a space of just five seasons, when Ronaldo was playing for them. They won their last UCL title in 2017-18, after which the Portuguese star left them to join Serie A giants Juventus, for a reported transfer fee of £88million.

Real Madrid fans believe that selling Ronaldo was one of the biggest mistakes that the club has ever made. As you can see from the reactions above, many fans have pointed that out and they also want Los Blancos to sign him, at any cost.

Speaking about the game against PSG that was held on Wednesday, the Parisians defeated Zinedine Zidane and co. by a scoreline of 3-0 to begin their 2019-20 UCL campaign in style.

Former Los Blancos winger Angel Di Maria scored a brace for PSG in the first half, after which Gareth Bale had a stunning goal disallowed for handball.

During injury time, PSG’s Thomas Meunier added a late third after linking up with fellow full-back Juan Bernat in the box.

Zinedine Zidane slams Real Madrid midfield after humiliating loss against PSG

On Wednesday, La Liga giants Real Madrid suffered a humbling 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the Champions League. Angel di Maria scored a first-half brace for PSG and later, during stoppage time, their victory was completed with the help of a goal by Thomas Meunier.

During the post-match press conference, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was angry at his players for a below-par performance – that too, against a PSG side that had a second-string attacking line-up devoid of both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

The humiliating manner of defeat seemed to have upset upset Zidane, who aimed his frustration at his Real Madrid players at the final whistle.

“They were better than us in every department,” the Frenchman said, during the post-match press conference.

“In the play, in midfield, and the thing that annoys me most is the intensity.”

The former World Cup winner went on to slam the team for not showing enough intent while playing, and named that as the one reason why they were brutally outclassed by the Parisians.

“It is very difficult if you do not start strongly.”

“They are good at creating chances – that is not what worries me, it is seeing my team without the necessary intensity at the high level of this competition.”

“We knew they would put pressure us but we did not really get properly into the game at any stage.”

“Intensity is the most important thing on the pitch.”

“You can have your worst game, but if you play with intensity, put your foot in, win challenges, you can win the game – but we didn’t,” he concluded.

Ex-Serie A star pips Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar; named most expensive transfer in history

Ex-Serie A star pips Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar; named most expensive transfer in history

We all know that Neymar Jr., Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and so on, made some of the most expensive transfers in the history of football, based on the face values of their fees. However, when market inflation rates are considered, ex-Juventus star Gianluca Vialli beats everyone else in the case of transfer fees.

Neymar made headlines and broke all sorts of transfer fee-records with his £200million move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in July 2017.

The Brazilian has also been named the most expensive player of all time, as a result.

However, now, thanks to new research done by an agency named TotallyMoney, we have understood that the 27-yer-old is, in fact, NOT the most-expensive footballer ever.

TotallyMoney calculated the impact of “football inflation” on past transfers, and concluded that it is Gianluca Vialli who made the costliest transfer of all time, when market inflation is taken into account.

Most expensive players on TotallyMoney‘s Transfer Index

1. Gianluca Vialli: Sampdoria to Juventus – £14.9million in 1992, £209million today

2. Neymar: Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain – £200million in 2017, £202million today

3. Cristiano Ronaldo: Manchester United to Real Madrid – £84.6million in 2009, £195million today

4. Romario: PSV Eindhoven to FC Barcelona – £10.8million in 1993, £167million today

5. Gareth Bale: Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid – £90.9million in 2013, £167million today

6. Rio Ferdinand: Leeds to Manchester United – £41.4million in 2002, £159million today

10. Jean-Pierre Papin: Marseille to AC Milan – £10.8million in 1992, £152million today

As you can see, Vialli’s £14.9million-rated move in 1992, is worth £209million today – more than Neymar’s PSG move and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid move.

Some other surprising names in the top-ten list are Rio Ferdinand, Alen Boksic and Jean-Pierre Papin.

Reports: Juventus look to unite Cristiano Ronaldo with ex-Real Madrid teammate

The latest word around the rumour mill is the Real Madrid star Isco has been targeted by Serie A giants Juventus. The Italian club are likely to move for him during the next summer transfer window in June.

This is according to Calciomercato, who reports, via Sports Mole, that Juventus are interested in the 27-year-old, as he does not seem to have much future at Real Madrid at the moment.

Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane is reportedly interested in signing the likes of Paul Pogba from Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP, Donny Van de Beek from AFC Ajax and Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur. With so many midfielders on his wishlist, Sports Mole reports that Isco’s career at Real Madrid is slowly approaching its end, and that the player himself is aware of it.

Earlier this summer, the Spaniard was a subject of strong interest from Manchester City, but Real Madrid were unwilling to let him leave, as they hoped that he would prove to be an important player during the 2019-20 campaign.

However, Zidane has started him in just one La Liga match so far this season, making it clear that he does not play much of a role in the Frenchman’s plans this season.

WATCH: Chelsea star gets nutmegged in training, Frank Lampard reacts brilliantly

On Monday, Chelsea star Tammy Abraham was nutmegged in training, and the best reaction of all came from none other than Frank Lampard, the manager of the Blues himself.

Watch the video here:

As you can see, the Chelse stars were engaged in a game of rondo when Reece James was initially nutmegged, leaving many of his teammates in stitches.

However, the bigger and better surprise came five seconds later, as Mateo Kovacic easily slipped the ball through the legs of an advancing Tammy Abraham. Needless to say, everyone present at the scene began roaring with laughter.

It is only fair to give a special mention to Chelsea boss Frank Lampard who can also be seen laughing hysterically, appearing to enjoy the situation very well.

Earlier, speaking in the pre-match press conference before the Champions League game against Valencia, Lampard spoke about his young stars, including Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James, and backed them to “blossom” during the season.

“I’m confident but very aware of the dangers,” the Chelsea manager said.

“Our target is to qualify from a tough group. It is different [from Premier League football]; the main thing is that the concentration levels throughout the game have to be spot on. The different level can surprise you.”

“I have belief in the players. I think we have talent that can blossom in the Champions League this season,” he concluded.

Ex-Manchester United manager edges out Pep Guardiola in highest-spending managers’ list

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has topped the list of highest-spending managers in the history of football. According to records, he has spent a total of €1.6billion for 97 signings so far.

In a study conducted by Transfermarkt, Mourinho edged past the likes of Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini to cement his place at the top.

Take a look at the top-ten chart down below:

As you can see, Ancelotti, who previously managed Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, has spent a total of €1.2billion for 85 signings so far. Guardiola, who previously managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich before joining the Sky Blues, has also spent the same sum as the Italian, but on a total of just 52 signings.

Guardiola, hence, is the biggest spender in this list when the average is taken into account – the Spaniard has spent an average of €23.08million per transfer.

Another person in this list who is worth a mention, is ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has spent just €964million in transfer fees, despite having stayed on as a manager for more than two decades. He has also made the maximum number of signings – 103 – which is why he is also the least-spending manager when the average is taken into account.

Unai Emery, who signed Neymar Jr. from Barcelona to PSG in 2017, is at the tenth place in the above list. Though he has made 63 signings till date, €220million of his €705million expenditure came from one player alone – Neymar himself.

Reports: Real Madrid, Barcelona target Jurgen Klopp amidst ongoing Liverpool contract talks

According to reports, both Real Madrid and Barcelona have targeted Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, amidst rumours about ongoing contract talks with the Reds.

Don Balon reports that Klopp is rated highly in Spain, as he led Liverpool to successive Champions League finals. He also helped the Reds win the European trophy in 2018-19, and furthermore, led them to a second-place finish in the Premier League, just one point behind champions Manchester City.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are hence keen to sign the former Borussia Dortmund manager, as they believe that he is the one person who will help them find their way back to win the Champions League yet again.

Barcelona are yet to win a UCL title since 2014-15, while Real Madrid got eliminated in the round-of-16 this season, thanks to a humiliating defeat against AFC Ajax.

Meanwhile, Klopp himself has reportedly made it clear that his contract with Liverpool ends in 2022 and that he is interested to stay on at Anfield until then. However, he is yet to open on the possibility of continuing with the Merseyside club, and several sources have already pointed out that he is unlikely to do so.

Up next, Liverpool will face Napoli in their opening fixture of the 2019-20 Champions League season, on Tuesday.

Reports: Manchester United target wants Spain move, picks between Barcelona and Real Madrid

According to reports, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho – who is apparently a target for Manchester United – has revealed that he would prefer a move to Spain rather than England.

This is according to Don Balon, who also reports that both Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in the England international, apart from Manchester United themselves.

According to the Spanish news agency, the Borussia Dortmund winger is keen on joining Barcelona, so as to play alongside Lionel Messi.

Earlier, this month, the 19-year-old spoke about a host of topic, including his biggest dream in football.

“I want to win the Euros,” he said. “And the World Cup and the Champions League.”

“My dream is to be an England regular. This squad has brilliant potential if we stick together and play as a team. It’s great to have other young exciting players in training,” he further added.

The former Manchester City youth player relocated to Borussia Dortmund in 2017, since when he has grown to become a very important part of their team. Right now, a lot of clubs are behind Sancho, hoping to sign him next summer – some of them are Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid as mentioned above, while others include PSG, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and also Liverpool.

However, based on what Don Balon claims, it is likely that he will shift to Spain soon, where he will choose the Blaugrana over Real Madrid.

Juventus are currently preparing to face Atletico Madrid in their 2019-20 Champions League opener at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on Thursday.

In case you do not remember, it was the Bianconeri who dumped Los Rojiblancos out of the competition last season, despite the latter winning the first-leg 2-0.

In the second-leg, former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo showed the world what he is made of, with a brilliant hattrick that overturned Atletico Madrid’s first-leg lead.

The win also helped the Turin side reach the quarter-finals, where they ended their tournament run after facing a defeat against Dutch champions AFC Ajax.

Meanwhile, after a couple of difficult loan spells at AC Milan and Chelsea, Higuain is back with Juventus, and he also revealed that he is quite about rejoining them.

“Last season was not easy. I am happy to be back here,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“When I returned, nobody told me anything. I returned to work, to demonstrate my quality.”

“I wanted to return to Juventus from day one. I feel good and happy,” Higuain concluded.

“Inside myself, I decided that I want to play until Wimbledon,” Federer said, before adding:

Reports: Barcelona could shut down Camp Nou following issues in Antoine Griezmann transfer

Reports: Barcelona could shut down Camp Nou following issues in Antoine Griezmann transfer

Reports suggest that La Liga giants Barcelona may be forced to play one home match behind closed doors, as they have been found guilty of using illicit methods to successfully carry out the summer transfer of Antoine Griezmann.

Barcelona were investigated after Griezmann’s former club Atletico Madrid filed a complaint to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), accusing the Catalans of entering negotiations with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, while he was still under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The standard punishment for such an offence is a fine of €300. However, according to El Mundo as reported by OneFootball, Juantxo Landaberea – the experienced sports law judge handling the case – has called for Barcelona to be punished in a harsher manner, suggesting that they should also be forced to close the Camp Nou for one match in the 2019-20 La Liga.

OneFootball also reports that the Competition Committee with RFEF will now decide on whether or not they have to enforce Judge Landaberea’s recommendations, but a report in AS claims that representatives from the Spanish Football Association have informed them that it is not likely to happen.

In case you did not know, Atletico Madrid claim that Barcelona began negotiations with the French striker back in March 2019, when his release clause was still priced at €200million.

Los Rojiblancos suspect foul play in the move, as Griezmann later forced them to lower it to €120million on 1st July.

Just eleven days later, he joined the Blaugrana for the same price.
