Statistics show Manchester United star does not deserve his place in the team

Statistics show Manchester United star does not deserve his place in the team

Manchester United are well on their way to try and challenge strongly for the 2019-20 Premier League title, but they may not be able to do much if they continue to field Jesse Lingard in their starting eleven – if statistics of the past one year can be trusted.

The Englishman disappointed yet again, in a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux on Sunday – after his manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to field him as Manchester United’s number 10 player.

Lingard was decidedly uncreative throughout the match – much to the ire of fans who have already begun rallying against the 26-year-old for his behaviour both on and off the pitch.

The only note-worthy comment that was made about Lingard after the Wolves game was definitely not a positive one, with sportswriter Duncan Alexander posting a viral statistical data about him.

According to what he found, the English forward has neither produced a goal nor an assist in the Premier League in 2019 and December 2018 is the only month in which he has actually done both, since the start of the previous season.

In other words, Lingard has not contributed to a single goal in 12 of the last 13 months of competitive Premier League action. Take a look at the tweet down below:

If nothing else, the data simply goes on to suggest that Solskjaer could get more goals and more wins by playing somebody else in Lingard’s place – and that could be crucial for Manchester United by the end of the 2019-20 season.

Reports: Lionel Messi’s Barcelona teammate ‘waiting’ for Serie A giants to sign him

Reports: Lionel Messi's Barcelona teammate 'waiting' for Serie A giants to sign him

Barcelona star Arturo Vidal is apparently “waiting” for Inter Milan to come and fetch him before the summer transfer window shuts down in September.

This is according to the Italian news agency SempreInter.com, who reports that Vidal, a former Juventus star, has expressed interest in reuniting with his former manager Antonio Conte, who is now the boss at Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri have absolutely no intentions to meet Barcelona’s €20million valuation for the midfielder – however, they are still interested in the player and are hence preparing a loan offer for him, as per the Italian publication.

SempreInter.com further reports that Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio are “working patiently” for Vidal in the hope that Barcelona will accept a loan move in the upcoming final week of the transfer window.

The 32-year-old Chilean previously played for Bayer Leverkusen (2007-2011), Juventus (2011-2015) and Bayern Munich (2015-2018) before signing for Barcelona last summer, for a transfer fee of €18million.

He has since scored three goals and made seven assists, in 53 appearances across various competitions for the Catalans.

The Italian publication has also claimed that the midfielder could find himself reuniting with his national teammate Alexis Sanchez at Inter Milan, as the Manchester United forward is also close to agreeing terms with them.

Former Real Madrid manager passes verdict on Lionel Messi’s ‘GOAT’ status

Former Real Madrid manager passes verdict on Lionel Messi's 'GOAT' status

As the debate about whether Lionel Messi is actually the greatest footballer of all time rages on, former Real Madrid manager Jose Antonio Camacho has made his verdict official – unless Messi wins the World Cup, you cannot call him the ‘GOAT’, according to Camacho.

Camacho admitted that he does admire the Argentine footballing legend, but went on to opine that he is one important trophy shy of being deservedly hailed as the greatest footballer of all time – the World Cup trophy.

“He [Lionel Messi] is a very good player, but you can’t be the best in the world – let alone in history – if you are an Argentinian and you have not won a World Cup,” Camacho said in an interview with El Mundo.

He further said, “There are countries with lesser tradition when it comes to world football – where winning the World Cup is not as significant an achievement as in other countries – but Argentina is a dominant force,” before adding:

“No, without a World Cup, Messi can’t be the best.”

“A World Cup is the best you can aspire to and Argentinians will always demand it,” Camacho further explained the reason for his take.

Despite feeling that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is yet to earn the title of ‘GOAT’, Camacho admitted that Messi is still a legend and that he is an admirer of the forward.

“He can decide a game at any time,” the ex-Spain coach explained. “There can be a total balance between two teams but he is Lionel Messi and he can break that balance suddenly,” he concluded.

US Open 2019: Argentina star names his favourite among Federer, Nadal and Djokovic

US Open 2019: Argentina star names his favourite among Federer, Nadal and Djokovic

Argentine tennis star Guido Pella has revealed that given a choice of the top-three tennis stars at the moment – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic – his favourite pick would be Federer only.

Pella was speaking in an interview with La Nacion when he was asked who his favourite player is. He said:

“They are all unique. But I think that if you say, “Federer”, it’s the same as tennis, so I think I put Roger [Federer] a bit more on the top.”

The former ATP World Tour 250 Series winner further spoke on a few other topics, including his biggest weakness when it comes to playing the game, his plans for the future, and so on.

Upon asked about the one thing he would like to improve on the most, Pella replied:

“The less patience I have. And my anxiety. There days where I am doing well and others where I am doing very bad. I should be more consistent many times.”

“The only thing that gives me fear is death. All the rest, you handle it. But knowing that it ends, makes me sad,” he further added.

Pella later opened up on the possibility of a career in tennis for his son.

“I will not put him a racket on the hand as they did with me,” he said, before adding:

We will see if there are the right conditions: if he is bad, better. If he is good, I would hire the best coach I know and I would support him and not get involved with his career.”

Manchester United, Manchester City fans slam VAR over Raheem Sterling decision

Manchester United, Manchester City fans slam VAR over Raheem Sterling decision

The new VAR system used in the Premier League this season disappointed both Manchester United and Manchester City fans during Gameweek 2 – and many of them have since questioned the technology’s consistency after it made two different decisions for identical situations in both matches.

In case you did not know, Raheem Sterling’s brilliant for City in their game against West Ham United last week was ruled out because VAR found that the England international’s shoulder was a few millimetres offside.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves’ goal was allowed against Manchester United despite VAR footage revealing that Neves was in an identical position to that of Sterling a week ago.

In the build-up to the goal, Neves received the ball from Joao Moutinho after a quick one-two with his teammate. But replays showed that Moutinho’s shoulder could have been offside when he took it back. Eventually, VAR deemed there to have been no offside, and the goal stood.

The inconsistency between the two decisions have since led both City and United fans to question VAR’s credibility, as you can see from the reactions below:

Manchester United will now take on Crystal Palace, while Wolves will lock horns against Burnley in the next Premier League Gameweek.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer slams referee over Daniel James diving incident

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer slams referee over Daniel James diving incident

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he did not approve of the referee’s decision to book Daniel James during Monday’s Premier League outing against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Solskjaer said that according to him, Daniel James did not dive intentionally and hence did not deserve the yellow card.

In case you did not know, the 21-year-old youngster was booked during the first half of the game, as he was believed to have made an intentional dive after challenging Wolverhampton’s Joao Moutinho for the ball.

According to Express, James was attempting to use his pace to get past Moutinho after knocking the ball past him.

The winger flicked the ball past the Wolves midfielder and attempted to outrun him to retrieve it. However, as he did so, he clipped the trailing leg of Moutinho and fell to the ground.

Meanwhile, Jon Moss the match referee who officiated the proceedings during the game, was not really convinced about there being a foul and instead of warning the Portuguese star for extending his leg, brought the yellow card out and awarded it to James, accusing him of diving wrongfully.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw and in the press conference that followed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted that there was enough contact for James to go down – as far as he could see.

“I don’t think it’s a booking,” he was quoted as saying.

“I haven’t seen the video but he’s so quick so you’ve got to tell me if there’s contact or not. But he does get kicked so many times and I think he gets loads of yellow cards for the defenders playing against him and sometimes he gets fouled and it doesn’t look like a foul.”

“I don’t think it’s a yellow card anyway, from live viewing,” Solskjaer concluded.

Reports: Real Madrid back in talks for signing Premier League superstar

Reports: Real Madrid back in talks for signing Premier League superstar

According to reports La Liga giants Real Madrid have reopened negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur for signing Christian Eriksen before the summer transfer window shuts down on 2nd September.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has apparently informed the club that he wants to sign the 27-year-old, after Los Blancos‘ move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba failed earlier this month.

Don Balon reports that the club’s representatives are also interested in tabling an offer for the star, as he is currently considered a much cheaper alternative to Pogba.

Real Madrid have already renewed the contracts of both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric – however, the future of other midfielders namely, Casemiro, Isco, Fede Valverde and so on remain uncertain – as a result of which Zidane wants another star who can be guaranteed a starting position in the playing XI, in the Los Blancos lineup.

The Spanish news agency further suggests that if Tottenham and Real Madrid agree a deal for Eriksen, the player who is most likely to lose his place in the Spanish club would be James Rodriguez, who recently returned from a loan move at Bayern Munich.

Don Balon also reports that Zidane is most likely to bring in Eriksen with the help of a player-plus-cash deal, wherein he would trade Rodriguez and a transfer fee of €40million in exchange for the former Ajax star.

Reports: Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez react to Philippe Coutinho’s exit from Barcelona

Reports: Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez react to Philippe Coutinho's exit from Barcelona

According to reports, Barcelona superstars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are the only former teammates who supported Philippe Coutinho during his short, one-and-a-half-year stint at the Camp Nou.

Coutinho, who arrived at Barcelona in 2018 January for a transfer fee of €140million, did well in the initial set of matches but after the 2018 World Cup, he suffered from an unexpected dip in form.

The Brazilian star scored ten goals and made six assists in just 22 appearances for the Catalans in the 2017-18 season – but in 54 appearances for them in 2018-19, he scored only eleven more goals and made just five more assists.

The 27-year-old joined Barcelona largely due to the wishes of both Messi and Suarez, who firmly believed that the former Liverpool and Inter Milan star definitely had what it takes to excel in the Blaugrana colours.

However, Coutinho failed to impress manager Ernesto Valverde – and also fell out with a lot of teammates during the 2018-19 season, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish news agency further reports that Messi and Suarez tried their level best to make their teammates accept the star attacker, but the two unforgettable defeats of the 2018-19 season – the first one against Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the second one against Valencia in the finals of the Copa del Rey – resulted in further problems as Coutinho’s dip in form was one of the major reasons why Barcelona lost both matches.

And now, the 27-year-old has secured a loan move to Bayern Munich – and the German giants are also likely to activate the “buy” clause in his deal next summer.

Meanwhile, Don Balon reports that both Messi and Suarez now want Valverde and co. to find a replacement to Coutinho at the earliest, so that the club can return back to its winning ways.

Reports: Cristiano Ronaldo wants Lionel Messi’s Barcelona teammate at Juventus

Reports: Cristiano Ronaldo wants Lionel Messi's Barcelona teammate at Juventus

The latest word around the rumour mill is that Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Juventus that he wants to play alongside Barcelona’s star right-back Nelson Semedo next season.

It is Don Balon that reports that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wants Semedo as Juventus’ first-choice right-back in 2019-20. The Bianconeri recently lost Joao Cancelo to Manchester City and received Danilo from them as part of a swap deal, but Ronaldo apparently feels that his former Real Madrid teammate is not qualified enough to start games for Juventus.

Meanwhile, Semedo himself is reportedly unsettled at Barcelona, especially after the Blaugrana‘s twin defeats at the end of the 2018-19 season – the loss against Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the one that followed, versus Valencia in the Copa del Rey final.

The report in Don Balon has also suggested that Barcelona are looking beyond Semedo for a first-choice right-back this summer, which is why the 25-year-old is not quite comfortable at the Camp Nou at the moment.

According to the Spanish news agency, Juventus can close Semedo’s signing for about €40million – which is about €5million more than what Barcelona paid for him when he joined from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Benfica in July 2017.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains why Paul Pogba took the penalty for Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains why Paul Pogba took the penalty for Manchester United

Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained that Paul Pogba took the penalty during the game, because both he and Marcus Rashford are the club’s designated penalty takers and that it is up to them to decide at the moment.

As you all know by now, the Frenchman missed his spot-kick chance and that cost United the win against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men at the Molineux.

Earlier, Rashford had taken the penalty against Chelsea last week, which is why Pogba took the chance against Wolves. Solskjaer further explained that both players take alternate chances when it comes to penalties at Manchester United.

“Because the two of them are the designated penalty shooters. It’s up to them there and then to decide ‘this is mine’,” he was quoted as saying.

The explanation also caused former United star Gary Neville to slam the decision.

“This is a Manchester United penalty, this is not a tombola, this is not a five-a-side on the playground,” he said.

“Daniel James is saying to Rashford ‘Is this right? You scored last week mate.’ Then Rashford even throws the ball to Pogba, that’s what makes me feel that Pogba is the actual taker. Something’s not right here.”

The former right-back added: “Even if the players have been told to decide who takes the penalties themselves, it’s not spin the bottle; the player that scores last week takes the penalty this week.”

Fans want Marcus Rashford as Manchester United penalty taker after Paul Pogba miss against Wolves

Fans want Marcus Rashford as Manchester United penalty taker after Paul Pogba miss against Wolves

Manchester United fans have expressed their disappointment at Paul Pogba on Twitter after the midfielder missed a penalty against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Monday.

The fans further stressed that they want Pogba’s teammate Marcus Rashford to become Manchester United’s default penalty taker from now onwards, as they believe that the England international is better at spot-kicks.

The following are some of the best reactions on the incident, that we collected from Twitter:

The situation did not sit well with former United star Gary Neville who slammed Pogba and Rashford for their decision.

What do you think of the situation? Who is most suited to take Manchester United’s spot-kicks – Pogba or Rashford?

Reports: Manchester United target agrees new contract at current club; wages doubled

Reports: Manchester United target agrees new contract at current club; wages doubled

Reports suggest that Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have doubled Jadon Sancho’s wages this summer, in a bid to make him stay on at the club amid huge long-term interest from Premier League giants Manchester United.

Previously, it was reported that the player himself is eyeing a return to the Premier League, as Manchester United and Manchester City continue to target him although the summer transfer window for England ended earlier in August.

Bild reports that the 19-year-old earned close to €3million in 2018-19, but after a spectacular season that saw Borussia Dortmund narrowly missing the Bundesliga title, the club seems to have raised his salary up to €6million (£5.5million /$6.7million) per season, so that he will be interested to stay on and further help them in the race for the 2019-20 league title.

Earlier, Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke had revealed that he recently turned down a “super club’s” mega offer for Jadon Sancho.

“A chief of one of the super clubs asked me back in spring if there was a chance [to sign Sancho] but I told him straight away he should forget about it and he never contacted me again,” Watzke told Dortmund newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten.

“He knew I meant what I said,” he further added.

“There aren’t many 19-year-olds with such potential,” Watzke added. “He is also not a player from the region or one who would have any connection to it.

“When you have a player like Jadon Sancho, you must reassess the situation every single year.”

“Everything else would not be honest. If a foreign player is not convinced that the club is right for him at the exact time, it just does not make any sense,” he then concluded.

Reports: Juventus closer to signing Neymar than Barcelona

Reports: Juventus closer to signing Neymar than Barcelona

The latest word around the rumour mill is that Paris Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Neymar is closer to joining Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus than signing for Barcelona and reuniting with Lionel Messi.

It is Alfredo Martinez, a football reporter for the Spanish radio network Onda Cero – who reports that Juventus have more money than Barcelona at the moment and that they would be willing to shell out at least €80million as transfer fee along with Paulo Dybala in a player-plus-cash swap deal for the Brazilian.

The news was revealed by the reporter during Onda Cero‘s El Transistor radio programme.

Check out El Transistor‘s tweet right here:

As you can see, Martinez has also made it clear that even Real Madrid have steered clear off Barcelona in the transfer race for the 27-year-old. The transfer is getting more and more complicated for the Blaugrana as each day passes, because they do not have funds to secure the player on a permanent deal – whereas both Real Madrid and Juventus do.

Earlier, it was reported that the Catalans are keen on signing Neymar on a season-long loan deal with an option to make the move permanent in 2020 July. But PSG are apparently thinking about rejecting the offer as they want the Brazilian out of their club at the earliest.

Paul Pogba racially abused by Manchester United fans after penalty miss against Wolverhampton

Paul Pogba racially abused by Manchester United fans after penalty miss against Wolverhampton

In what can be described as a very disgusting piece of news, it has been understood that Paul Pogba was subjected to racial abuse on social media following his penalty miss which could have given Manchester United a 2-1 lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

Initially, before the kick was taken by the French midfielder, there appeared to be a debate between him and teammate Marcus Rashford over who should take the spot-kick.

As mentioned above, Pogba himself took control in the end and took the ball from his teammate, before Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio saved his shot by diving to his right.

The match eventually ended in a draw with the scorecard reading 1-1 at the end of full-time and Pogba was looked upon as the reason why Manchester United could not win.

And Mirror now reports that some abhorrent posts which aimed racial abuse towards Pogba were spotted in Twitter shortly after the game.

The English news agency said that some tweets addressed the Manchester United number six as “n*****”, among other derogatory terms as well.

One post read: “Pogba you f****** n*****”, while another user said: “Pogba is a n*****”. Another vile post read: “Pogba… you f****** fat m***** looking n*****.”

Mirror further claims that they saw at least seven anti-Pogba posts of a disgusting racial nature.

To see that such things continue to happen at this day and age, is downright disgusting.
