Reports: Real Madrid eye Premier League star to bolster attack; could offer player in return to secure deal

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid were left red-faced by Paris Saint Germain, who put three unanswered goals past the Spanish giants in their UEFA Champions League encounter. As a result of their faltering attack, Los Blancos have identified one Premier League star as a potential signing and could be even willing to offer a player in return.

According to Spanish news publication, Don Balon, Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to bolster their attack. The Gabon international moved to North London in January 2018 and has been in free-scoring form since then.

The operation to bring Aubameyang to Madrid would likely cost Los Blancos around €80 Million. However, the report claims that they could offer Arsenal the chance to sign loanee Dani Ceballos on a permanent deal, while taking their star forward with them to Spain.

Furthermore, the report states that Arsenal could be even forced to sell Aubameyang to Real Madrid, provided that the Gunners fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the third year running. IN such a case, Los Blancos could even secure their target for a less than normal fee.

Real Madrid bolstered their attack this season with the signings of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, and Rodrygo. However, all three are yet to fully take to their new surroundings and have suffered from lukewarm starts at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid break several unwanted records in UEFA Champions League loss to PSG

Real Madrid started their latest UEFA Champions League campaign with a horror-show against Paris Saint Germain. Los Blancos lost to the Parisians by three goals to nil, with ex-Galactico Angel di Maria scoring twice. The Spanish giants even set some damning milestones in their huge loss.

Real Madrid were put to the sword by Paris Saint Germain in their latest UEFA Champions League encounter. The Paris outfit, missing Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Edinson Cavani, scored thrice with former Madrid star Angel di Maria scoring twice. Thomas Meunier, meanwhile, added the third in stoppage time.

Los Blancos set or equalled several records in their shock defeat to PSG. The most noteworthy of them all was related to the scoreline, with Real Madrid recording their biggest-ever Champions League loss under Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman oversaw three previous European campaigns at Santiago Bernabeu, all of which resulted in a trophy.

Furthermore, the Spanish giants recorded no shots on target as the front-three of Eden Hazard, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale misfired. Bale and Benzema did put the ball into the net on two separate occasions, with both being ruled out later. As a result, Los Blancos finished the match with no shots on target for the first time since 2003/04 season.

Finally, the loss also meant that for the first time since 2006, the record champions started their Champions League campaign without a single point. (via Goal)

Juventus surrendered a two-goal lead in their latest Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid. The Bianconeri took the lead through Juan Cuadrado before Blaise Matuidi added a second. The Spanish side, meanwhile, hit back through Stefan Savic and Hector Herrera, before Cristiano Ronaldo wasted the chance to win the match.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a glorious last-minute opportunity for Juventus as they ended up drawing their opening UEFA Champions League 2019/20 match to Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese star did all the hard work himself, dribbling past opponents and into the box, before putting his shot on the wrong side of the post.

Take a look at the missed chance below:

Juan Cuadrado put Juventus ahead on the night with a wonderful strike, before Blaise Matuidi added a second. However, Atletico Madrid persisted until the end and were rewarded when defender Stefan Savic pulled one back. Hector Herrera, on as a substitute, levelled the match just a minute into stoppage time, scoring off a Kieren Trippier delivery for a set-piece.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed his chance late on, leaving the two sides with a point each after their first Champions League matchday. Juventus next go up against Bayer Leverkusen while Atletico Madrid face group leaders Lokomotiv Moscow.

Fans blast Eden Hazard after horror show for Real Madrid in UEFA Champions League loss to PSG

Real Madrid succumbed to a three-nil loss against Paris Saint Germain in their opening match of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos were completely outplayed by the Parisians, with several players going missing on the night. Eden Hazard was one of them and was slammed on social media.

Eden Hazard hasn’t had the best o starts to his Real Madrid career. The Belgian international joined the club from Chelsea, after spending seven years with the latter. However, an injury ruled him out from making his official debut for his new side until September 14.

Hazard made his first full start for the club during their Champions League match against PSG. However, the ex-Chelsea man failed to live up to the standards set by himself and ended up going missing on the night.

Fans were quick to point out the Real Madrid star’s poor performance, slamming him for the same.

Angel di Maria scored twice as PSG beat Real Madrid in their opening UEFA Champions League match. Thomas Meunier, meanwhile, added a third in stoppage time to further pile on the misery on Zinedine Zidane.

Los Blancos will next meet up with Club Brugge, who drew their opening match against Galatasaray. PSG, on the other hand, will visit Turkey to play against the latter.

Real Madrid were outdone by Paris Saint Germain in every department and succumbed to a three-nil loss in their latest UEFA Champions League match. However, things could have been very different for the record champions, who seemed to have pulled a goal back through Gareth Bale, only for VAR to step in.

Gareth Bale scored one of the greatest UEFA Champions League goals of all time, only for it to be ruled out by VAR, as Real Madrid were beaten by Paris Saint Germain. The Welshman put the ball in the net following PSG’s two-goal-flurry, only for the video referee to step in and rule it out for handball.

Bale bounced the ball off himself several times before chipping it above Keylor Navas in goal. However, due to a hand involved in the build-up, the goal was cancelled.

Here’s a video of the incident:

Meanwhile, Angel di Maria returned to haunt Real Madrid, as the Argentine winger led PSG past the record champions with two first-half goals. Los Blancos persisted till the end but were completely outplayed by their opponents, who added a third in stoppage time through Thomas Meunier.

PSG boss reveals what Neymar did to force a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar

Barcelona and Real Madrid both wanted to sign Neymar Jr this summer. The Spanish pair reportedly even made their respective offers, which included both cash and players. However, the Brazil international stayed put in Paris. PSG boss Thomas Tuchel reveals what he did to secure a move.

Neymar Jr did everything in his power to leave France for Spain, revealed Paris Saint Germain manager Thomas Tuchel. The Brazil international was linked with a move to both Barcelona and Real Madrid, although neither materialized in the end.

“He did not want to be here. He tried everything in his power [to leave the club]. That did not help make him popular,” Tuchel told DAZN. (via Goal)

“You could feel that, and I can understand if the fans are angry, even permanently.

“Nevertheless, there is also a side between me as a coach and him as a player. There was never a break or a discrepancy. That’s why it was very easy for me to let him play. He has always trained professionally. I feel that the decision was a relief to him, even though it was against his wishes.

“Then, one is automatically focused on the task. As an athlete, there is not much else you can think about. You have to give your all. He is hungry and a competitive guy who always wants to win.

“He has to withstand it [the boos and whistles from the fans] now, that’s the reality. He has to go through it, and we all have to go through it in the home games. The best thing is to come to terms with it.”

The Brazilian forward returned to the team in PSG’s match against RC Strasbourg, even scoring the winner late on with a stunning bicycle kick.

Manchester United have extended the contract of Victor Lindelof until June 30, 2024, with an option to extend it another year.

I have grown significantly both as a player and as a person in the last two years and for that I am grateful to everyone at the club for their help and support. I love playing football and my aim now is to help the team to win trophies and repay the fans for their unrivalled support.

“I know that everyone at the club shares this vision and will give everything to get Manchester United back to where it belongs.

Manchester United next visit West Ham United in the Premier League, following a mid-week UEFA Europa League tie against Astana.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals three starters for Manchester United’s Europa League opener

Mason Greenwood celebrates scoring for Manchester United

Manchester United were sent back to the UEFA Europa League, after the Red Devils finished sixth in the 2018/19 Premier League season. The English giants will play their opening tie against Astana soon and manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer has already revealed three players who will surely start the match.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that youngsters Mason Greenwood and Axel Tuanzebe will be handed a start in their upcoming UEFA Europa League tie against Astana.

Sergio Romero, meanwhile, will also play from the start, replacing David de Gea in goal. Several other academy products, although unconfirmed, are expected to be a part of the first-team squad for this one.

Manchester United have been drawn in Group L of the competition alongside Astana, AZ Alkmaar and Partizan Belgrade.

The Red Devils have gotten off to a slow start in Solskjaer’s first full campaign at the club. A defeat then followed against Crystal Palace, with another draw against Southampton coming next. In their most recent match, the record league champions beat Leicester City by a goal to nil.

Liverpool star deletes Twitter account after abuse from fans following Champions League loss

Klopp bemused by VAR penalty decision as UCL holders Liverpool stunned by Napoli

Reigning champions Liverpool were handed a reality check by Napoli in the Champions League, as they were subjected to a two-nil loss. The Reds conceded late goals, first through Dries Mertens and then through Fernando Llorente. A Liverpool star, who was culpable for one of the goals faced backlash on social media, prompting him to delete his account.

Liverpool star Andrew Robertson appears to have deleted his Twitter account, following backlash on social media after Champions League loss. The Reds, with Robertson in the backline, were beaten by two goals to nil in their first match of the 2019/20 campaign, with the Scotland international responsible for the opening goal.

Robertson seemingly tripped Jose Callejon inside the box, leading to a VAR check before a penalty being awarded. Dries Mertens stepped up and converted the spot-kick with ease to hand the Italian side the lead.

Virgil van Dijk then made an error himself as his loose backpass was intercepted by Fernando Llorente, who poked the ball past Adrian to seal maximum points for Napoli.

Robertson, in particular, was abused by several Liverpool fans due to his part in the Napoli opener. The Scotland international responded by deleting his Twitter account, as seen in the image below (courtesy of Daily Mail).

Robertson and Liverpool will next face Chelsea in the Premier League.

Barcelona legend Xavi names three favourites to win 2019/20 UEFA Champions League

‘Barcelona must come back stronger after last year’s Liverpool defeat’ – Valverde

The 2019/20 UEFA Champions League season is underway. The first matchday produced plenty of shocks, with Chelsea and Liverpool both losing. However, there is still a long way to go in the competition and Barcelona legend Xavi has named three teams favourites to win the entire thing.

Barcelone legend, and UEFA Champions League winner, Xavi has named three teams who he feels are favourites to win the 2019/20 edition of the European competition.

“With Barcelona, I look at Manchester City and Liverpool as being the favourites for the Champions League this season,” Xavi told the Daily Mirror.

“We already know that Liverpool have shown they have what it takes to win the Champions League and they are a very strong team.

“And after two Premier League titles, I think Pep will really prioritize the Champions League this season.

“You never know what can happen – but I look at those three as one of the winners.”

Two of Xavi’s three suggested teams, however, suffered slow starts to their respective campaigns. The Spaniard’s ex-club, Barcelona, drew their opener by nil-nil against Borussia Dortmund. Liverpool, meanwhile, lost by two goals to nil against Napoli, with Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente getting the goals. Manchester City are in action against Shakhtar Donetsk later.

Barcelona star likes comment asking for Ernesto Valverde to be sacked after Borussia Dortmund draw

‘Barcelona must come back stronger after last year’s Liverpool defeat’ – Valverde

Barcelona continued their slow start to the season as they drew nil-nil against German side Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League. Fans, however, were left less than pleased with many calling for the head of manager Ernesto Valverde. One player himself got involved in the online bashing and liked a comment.

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong suffered a faux pas when he liked a comment suggesting the club to sack manager, Ernesto Valverde. The Spanish side have had some lukewarm spells under their manager, with several fans already turning against him.

De Jong, meanwhile, liked the following comment before quickly deleting the trace:

Valverde has come under fire for Barcelona’s poor form in Europe, with the Spanish side suffering from humiliating exits on the last two occasions.

The Blaugrana first saw AS Roma overturn a three-goal deficit in the 2017/18 competition to knock them out in the quarterfinals. The following year, Liverpool went one further and scored four unanswered goals to cancel their opponents’ three-goal advantage.

Barcelona started their 2019/20 Champions League campaign in a less than pleasing manner, drawing away to Borussia Dortmund. The German side, on the other hand, could’ve secured all three points had Marco Reus not missed his penalty.

Inter Milan are up against the Blaugrana next in the competition, with Antonio Conte’s men also drawing their opening match.

US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev reveals how to face Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic

Highlights – Daniil Medvedev vs Rafael Nadal

The 2019 US Open gave the tennis fraternity a new favourite – Daniil Medvedev. The Russian star made it all the way through to the Final, before going down to Rafael Nadal in a five-set thriller. He has now spoken about facing the big three – Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic – and how to prepare for them.

Daniil Medvedev showered the tennis ‘big three’ – Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic – with praise, as he recounted his experiences against them. The Russian tennis star recently came face-to-face with Nadal in the US Open final, losing in five sets.

“I am sure that even before my very first match against a Big Three player, they had already studied my weaknesses, they were trying to figure out how they would face me,” Medvedev said. (via Tennis World USA)

“That’s their strength, they prepare too well for any opponent. I do exactly the same: I prepare for every opponent, I study their strengths and weaknesses with my coach, I think about tactics, how to play. I always said that the first match against them, you feel different.

“They play in a different way. Djokovic has ‘just’ 16 Majors, he has the least amount and he already did something unbelievable. When Pete Sampras held 14, everybody said it was an amazing record and no one would have beaten it, but three guys came and they just destroyed this record.

“The most important thing is the experience against them. For example, let’s take Rafa, in the first match against him I only won three games, lost in an hour and something. I was angry, I was too easily beaten. And during our second match [US Open final], I tried to change something in my game, find something, which I think I did, and I had to try enough.”

Medvedev is currently preparing for the St Petersburg Open, while Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal get ready to take part in the Laver Cup.
