As Ateneo faltered against Adamson Wednesday, coach Oliver Almadro gave credit to how their opponents prepare hard and study his team.
“It’s hard to be #1. Defending your title is harder,” said the veteran coach as the Blue Spikers bowed to the Soaring Falcons, 19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 24-26, 13-15, in the UAAP Season 78 men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Maganda rin nilaro ng Adamson. Medyo intense sila today. They were prepared,” he added.
“We know how it is to be #1. Kanina, hindi namin alam kung paano kung may tatalo sa amin. Eh ngayon may tumalo, so oops, we’re not #1,” Almadro said.
The Ateneo mentor admits it was his team’s fault after they failed to adjust to Adamson’s superb blocking in the last 2 sets.
“The fault’s on us. It’s not na na-block nang na-block si Marck. It’s about we had a few bad plays in the 4th set, where we could have won.” he said. “Na-maximize din ng kalaban na nagkamali kami. But I’ll take this a challenge padin.”
Nonetheless, Almadro looks at it as a wake-up call — something similar to what they experienced at the hands of the Falcons in Season 77.
“It’s a wake up call. At least it happened this early. Kailangan lang maging stronger lang yung heart namin,” he closed. — By Arylle Magtalas
