Jovelyn Gonzaga shares new honor with late mom, provincial athletes

Jovelyn Gonzaga will now be able to fulfill her childhood dream after gaining a ‘golden ticket’ to the PH team that will battle in the FIVB World Club Women’s Championships this October here in the country.

Being named along with RC Cola-Army teammate Thursday night, the veteran opposite said she could be destined to represent the host nation in the prestigious meet.

And eto yung way niya, kung para sakin, para sakin at nakatadhana sakin,” she said. “Thankful talaga ako kay Papa God, I owe it to him. Lahat-lahat ng tao dahil sakanya and sobrang thankful ako.”

One of the few provincial athletes who succeeded despite never playing in the big collegiate leagues like the UAAP and the NCAA, Gonzaga is recognized as one of the best, if not the best, at her position in the Philippines.

And as she enters a new chapter in her career, the Guimaras native started to tear up when she realized what she has just accomplished.

With all of her achievements, Gonzaga proved to be an inspiration for aspiring athletes that live in the provinces.

— By Joyce Palad
