“Yung lesson dun? Relax lang.”
Those were UP libero Princess Gaiser’s words after a heartbreaking 5-set loss to star-studded Bali Pure in the 13th Shakey’s V-League Open Conference Monday night at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
In total control early on, the Lady Maroons vigorously tried to spoil Alyssa Valdez’s comeback, with their net and floor defense shining in the first and third sets.
However, according to Gaiser, UP started to get rattled when the Purest Water Defenders loaded up on their serves.
“Siguro nawala tapos bumalik tapos nawala yung momentum. Hindi siya bumalik kagad. Hindi siya consistent. Lahat basic lang yung mga mali, like first ball, dire-diretso nung 5th set,” she told FOX Sports.
“Yung external factors pa. Puro first ball kasi as in target, first ball. Makikita mo talaga na basic mistakes parin namin yun. Yun yung parang nag improve na kami, tapos ngayon bumabalik pa. So dapat di na nangyayari,” Gaiser, who had 13 digs, added.
As training woes were one of the reasons why the Lady Maroons had a 0–2 start in this conference, the team has been trying to cope up with the time that they lost in training due to academics.
“Nasasayangan ako. Nakita ko naman na kaya namin, nung first set palang,” she stressed. ” Tapos alam naming na mas nagtetraining na kami ngayon. Wala na kaming excuse para matalo dito or anything. Siguro kailangan parin namin magtraining pa.”
“Sabi niya samin nung start nung game, dapat ngayon na yung start ng pag training talaga namin for UAAP. Di na kami vacation mode. The past few days kasi training lang kami ng training kahit Saturday at Sunday. So wala na talagang excuse para matalo kami dito,” she added.
Unfortunately for the Diliman side, their efforts proved to be futile as Valdez came back with a bang to finish with a game-high 26 points for Bali Pure.
“From this experience, sana matauhan yung team namin na sayang yun. Di na namin uulitin yung same mistakes na ginagawa namin. Kailangan more improvement,” she said. “Yun lang naman hinahanap every game diba? What did you learn from every game tapos from there, kailangan matuto ka.” — By Joyce Palad
