Problems with her car almost led to F2 Logistics skipper Cha Cruz missing the Cargo Movers’ match against RC Cola-Army in Malolos, Bulacan.
“Sakto lang yung dating ko ng protocol kasi nasiraan ako ng sasakyan,” she told FOX Sports.
Knowing the PSL prohibits players from suiting up if they miss the protocol, Cruz pulled from within to ask a random stranger to bring her to the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
“Nakiusap lang ako sa may stop-over sa may Marilao, as in nakiusap lang ako ng random na lalaki na pakihatid po ako dito. Yung nakuha ko pang sasakyan, nagdedeliver ng halaman papunta Baler,” she said. “Super sakto, pagdating ko dito, protocol na.”
Not being able to warm up properly was a factor why she wasn’t able to play her A–game, as F2 Logistics bowed to the Lady Troopers.
“Walang warm-up, walang maayos na tape tapos di mainit kaya pagpasok sa loob sobrang lamig, sobrang bagal,” she said. “I blame din yung sarili ko kasi di ko masyadong namotivate yung team kasi di ko pa maayos yung sarili ko kasi sobrang haggard pa and all.”
Trusting a random stranger isn’t easy, but Cruz is still thankful she was able to arrive at the venue safe and sound.
“Thank you Lord. Nakarating ako dito ng buo at safe. At least mas convenient parin kung san man ako nakahinto at nakiusap ng favor na ihatid ako,” she added. “Super thank you kung sino man sila. Di ko kasi sila kilala.”
Losing to Army in straight sets, Cruz is still happy and proud of her teammates.
“With the result of the game and the circumstances na nangyari prior the game, sobrang proud parin naman ako sa teammates ko kasi syempre Army yun,” she said. “Buo sila and nagtetraining na sila, maaga sila nakarating dito and matagal na silang magkakasama.” — By Joyce Palad
