NHLPA names new Advisory Board

The National Hockey League Players' Association on Wednesday introduced its inaugural advisory board of directors, a group of eight members that includes former players Steve Larmer and Ken Baumgartner.

Also named to the advisory board were George Cohen, Buzz Hargrove, Ron Lloyd, Dan O'Neill, Ron Pink and Ian Troop.

"We are pleased to welcome these eight distinguished professionals as members of the new NHLPA Advisory Board," union executive director Paul Kelly said. "The Advisory Board was a significant addition to the new constitution and will serve as a valuable resource for the NHLPA's executive board and to the management team of the NHLPA."

The advisory board is expected to offer guidance on various topics that reflect its members' areas of expertise. Pink, the managing partner of Canadian law firm Pink Breen Larkin, was selected as the chairman of the advisory board.

Baumgartner and Larmer - who played a combined 1,702 NHL games - are former members of the NHLPA, with Larmer serving as the union's head of player relations from 1998-2005. Cohen was a senior partner of the Washington-based law firm Bredhoff & Kaiser PLLC, while Hargrove served as president of the Canadian Auto Workers Union before retiring earlier this month.

Lloyd is the chairman and CEO of Credit Suisse Securities Inc. of Canada, and O'Neill - who was a board member of both the Montreal Canadiens and the Hockey Hall of Fame - recently retired from his position of CEO for Molson Inc. Troop is the former president of the International Operating Group at ConAgra Foods.
