NFL: Opener injury blow for Mathews
San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews broke his clavicle on the first carry of pre-season.
Mathews, the third-year pro out of Fresno State, was injured on a five-yard rush in the Chargers' 21-13 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Qualcomm Stadium.
San Diego coach Norv Turner said Mathews requires surgery and will be out for four to six weeks.
The Chargers open their season at the Oakland Raiders on September 10.
