Twice the defending champion Kings went ahead, through Slava Voynov in the first period and Dustin Penner in the second, but they could not make either lead stick as first Bryan Bickell, with his eighth goal of the play-offs, and then Patrick Kane pulled Chicago level.

Hossa then put the Presidents' Trophy winners ahead for the first time at the start of the third, and the Blackhawks held on for a victory which put them 3-1 up in the best-of-seven series.

Chicago will attempt to seal their progress in front of their own fans on Saturday.
