With the San Antonio Spurs already through to the final, a win for the Heat in Indiana would have seen them progress, but with LeBron James the only Miami player to find the basket on a regular basis, it was the home side who ran out worthy winners.
Roy Hibbert put in a dominant performance scoring 24 points and claiming 11 rebounds, while Paul George weighed in with 28.
James unsurprisingly was the star for Miami, finishing with 29 points, however an out of sorts Dwayne Wade was limited to 10 points as he and Chris Bosch failed to make their presence felt as the Heat matched their lowest points total for the season.
The Pacers opened the third quarter on a 14-2 run as the Heat failed to find the basket, shooting one from the field. Indiana led by 17 late in the third and although Miami got within four before the Pacers pulled away again.
The two will meet up again on Monday, with the winner to take on the Spurs, with that series beginning on Friday.
