NBA: Lakers end losing streak vs Cavs

The LA Lakers finally brought their losing steak to an end as they saw off fellow strugglers the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-108.

The 2009 and 2010 NBA champions had lost their previous seven matches but built a 29-point lead against the Cavs and could not be caught.

Shooting guard Steve Blake claimed the second triple-double of his career with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists for the Lakers as Cleveland crashed to a sixth successive defeat.

Two-time reigning champions the Miami Heat made it three wins on the trot as they eased past the LA Clippers 116-112, with LeBron James pouring in 31 points and handing out 12 assists for the victors. Blake Griffin scored a day-high 43 points for the Clippers.

The San Antonio Spurs, who Miami beat in last year's finals, were also celebrating a third consecutive win as they saw off Washington 125-118 - their 16th consecutive win over the Wizards.

Houston own the best current run in the NBA as they recorded a 122-108 triumph over the Phoenix Suns, with Dwight Howard contributing 34 points and 14 rebounds - all on defence - for the Rockets, who have won their last four.

Oklahoma City Thunder's good form also continued as they made it 12 wins in 13 matches with a 106-97 triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In other games, the Denver Nuggets fought back from a half-time deficit to see off the Milwaukee Bucks 110-100, Sacramento Kings withstood a last-quarter fightback from the Toronto Raptors to claim a 109-101 win while the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 110-96.

Jeff Green's 36 points helped the Boston Celtics defeat the Philadelphia 76ers 114-108 for their second successive win - having won just two of their previous 18 - while New Orleans Hornets won 105-100 against the Atlanta Hawks, the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the New York Knicks 94-90 and the Orlando Magic saw off the Detroit Pistons 112-98.
