DC United upset the odds to win the 100th US Open Cup as they beat Real Salt Lake 1-0 in the final.

Lewis Neal's 45th-minute strike was enough to seal victory for the Washington-based side who last won the Cup in 2008.

Good work from John Thorrington and Perry Kitchen released the former Stoke striker and he slotted a low shot past Nick Rimando to stun the Western Conference leaders.

The goal sealed a third Cup for United who have won just three MLS games all season and sit bottom of the Eastern Conference.
