LA open door for NFL return

The ambitious venue ??? which is said to cost $2bn and will include St Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke as a partner in the building process ??? was given a 5-0 vote by Inglewood???s City Council.

Planners added the stadium to 2009 proposals for the old site of the Hollywood Park racetrack, that was originally a space for offices, homes, stores and green land. Kroenke – who is also the largest shareholder in Arsenal – is a shareholder in the Hollywood Park project.

LA has been without an NFL team since both the LA Rams and Raiders moved to St Louis and Oakland respectively in the mid-1990s, which saw the Raiders later win the 1984 Super Bowl under John Madden.

Fans of the St Louis Rams have faced continued speculation that their franchise could be moved to LA, with the average home attendance slipping to 53,000, way under their stadium???s capacity of 70,000.??
