Brook workout delights fans

The 29-year-old was all smiles as he invited young fans into a boxing ring constructed on the high street and play-fought with them – then getting down to more serious business with some pad-work with trainer Dominic Ingle.

Brook, who is making the second defence of the title he won by narrowly outpointing Shawn Porter in California last August, then shadow-boxed to the??cameras and shouted out: “It’s party time!”

Reflecting on dodging the ambitious hooks of one of the toddlers, Brook told??Sky Sports News HQ:??“He was swinging for the houses! We want to get the fans laughing, get them behind me and get the kids in here. The city of Sheffield has turned out today and I want to thank everyone for coming out.

“I’ve been working very hard in the gym and told Eddie Hearn I wanted to be back as far as possible. Looking at the poster, with two other world title fights plus Anthony Joshua, I’ll have the telly on and won’t miss a fight. It’s the biggest night in a long time.”

It has been a remarkable road to recovery for the The Special One, who proved he was back to his best during his first defence against Jo Jo Dan in March – stopping the Romanian in four rounds just six months after suffering a serious leg injury in a machete attack in Tenerife.

In Gavin, he may face a sterner test. Although many are already talking about potential super-fights with Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao, the 29-year-old Gavin is Britain’s only ever world amateur champion and claims to hold the key to causing an upset.

Brook said of his foe: “He’s a very dangerous opponent. He’s wanted this fight for a long time. He sees things in me he wants to exploit and he can bring it on. He’s very classy, won the worlds and when he’s up for a fight he always performs. If he performs like he says and believe me I’ve trained hard, fans are in for a treat.

“It’s nearly time, baby, to lace them up!

“Dominic Ingle has seen it all before and we’ve got our eyes firmly on Frankie Gavin. We’re not looking past him and every time we’re in the gym he’s pushed me hard and we’ve done what we needed to do in camp. I’m fully focused on him and fully prepared.

“Saturday night can’t come quick enough and I can’t wait to get back in that ring to defend my world title.”
