49ers down Vikings

San Francisco 49ers new coach Jim Tomsula got off to the perfect start when his side beat the Minnesota Vikings 20-3, thanks to running back Carlos Hyde's 168 yards and two touchdowns at Levi's Stadium on Monday night.

Hyde, who scored on a 10-yard run in the second quarter and a 17-yard run in the fourth, carried 26 times.

Making a return since September 7, 2014, was Adrian Peterson, the Vikings running back, who rushed for 31 yards on 10 carries. He missed the last 15 games of last season for alleged child-abuse charges.

Hyde replaced running back Frank Gore, who left to join Indianapolis Colts after last season, to make his first career start on Monday.

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick ran 47 yards on seven carries and completed 17 of 26 passes for 165 yards.

Tight end Vernon Davis made 47 yards after catching three passes, and tight end Garrett Celek made 40 yards from three catches.

Teddy Bridgewater, the Vikings quarterback, who was sacked five times, completed 23 of 32 passes for 231 yards with one interception.

Those responsible for sacking Bridgewater were, strong safety Antoine Bethea, linebacker NaVorro Bowman, safety Jaquiski Tartt, tackle Tank Carradine and linebacker Aaron Lynch.

The 49ers went in at the break leading 7-0 and in the second half made it 10-0 on kicker Phil Dawson's 30-yard field goal with 4:32 left in the third quarter. In 14 plays, the 49ers drove 73 yards before stalling at the Vikings' 11.

The lead diminished to 10-3 with 14:43 left to play when kicker Blair Walsh made a 37-yard field goal. The Vikings drove 66 yards in 11 plays to the 49ers' 19, but Bridgewater threw incomplete on second and third downs.

The 49ers went further ahead 17-3 after they drove 80 yards for a touchdown. With 9:30 left to play, Hyde gained 17 yards and scored on a 10-yard burst over right guard.

San Francisco cornerback Tramaine Brock managed to return 26 yards to the Vikings when he picked off a Bridgewater overthrow, setting up Dawson' 25-yard field goal with 6:08 remaining.
