Ferrer reaches fourth Valencia final

Spanish top seed David Ferrer reached his fourth Valencia Open final with a hard-fought victory over Croatian qualifier Ivan Dodig.

The Spaniard proving to be one tough cookie.

The 2008 and 2010 winner looked to be heading to a routine win when he wrapped up the first set but the dogged Dodig refused to wilt and forced a decider.

However world number five Ferrer, chasing his sixth ATP Tour title of the season, produced some of his best tennis to triumph 6-4 6-7 (7/5) 6-1 and set up a showdown with Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The Ukrainian had a more serene passage into the showpiece event as he comfortably beat Austria's Jurgen Melzer 6-4 6-2.
