Azarenka needed just over an hour to dispatch Romania's Irinia-Camelia Begu 6-2 6-1 after Goerges had edged out Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium.

Playing in her 10th semi-final of the season, Belarusian Azarenka was rarely troubled as lucky loser Begu was sent packing

Goerges had to recover from a set down to oust surprise package Flipkens 1-6 6-2 6-3, becoming the first German finalist in the competition since Barbara Rittner in 1995.

The Belgian won 75 per cent of the points on her serve to ensure Goerges lost her first set of the tournament but the fifth seed improved significantly to force a decider.

Flipkens, who eliminated two-time winner Ana Ivanovic yesterday, struggled with her first serve throughout and three double faults in the third set put paid to her hopes of progressing to the final.
